What To Do If You Are Bitten By A Snake?

What To Do If You Are Bitten By A Snake?

Snakes live all over the world, but especially in warm places such as deserts and rainforests. They are found on the ground, in water, and in the branches of trees.

1. Wash the bite with soap and water as soon as you can, cover it with a clean cloth, and keep the bitten area immobilized in a position lower than the heart. This slows down the flow of venom.

2. Find a doctor immediately even if you know the snake is not poisonous. Bites can cause infections and allergic reactions.

3. If you can’t reach a doctor within 30 minutes, wrap a bandage about 3 in. above the bite to slow down the flow of venom. The bandage should be loose enough to slip a finger underneath it.
4. Never try to suck out the poison. You could swallow it. Never try to cut out the poison. You could start an infection.

5. Do not put anything cool, such as ice, on the bite.
